Brother Knights:

Spring has come real fast. If you are like me, you are looking forward to enjoying it.  A walk, ride, sports event, barbecue etc. are wonderful ways to enjoy the splendor that the Lord has given us.  And you get to throw in a little effort on the events we have coming up.  Thanks to all who volunteered and participated in our second Lenten Fish Fry of 2007.  Our annual Spring Membership blitz will be held after all masses the weekend after Easter.  A new twist, the 5K Reverse Drawing and Dinner, takes place on Friday, May 11th and sounds like it will be a lot of fun.  But most of all, come out for our Holy Week Masses and pay your respect to He who is responsible for our being able to do all these wonderful events and enjoy our loved ones. GK Ed Keller.

Grand Knight Report: GK Ed Keller spoke to the St. Mark Council about how he is very proud of the Brothers and their continual dedication to serving the Parish and the Community. Keller said the other St. Mark ministries turn to the Knights again and again for one simple reason: St. Mark Knights always get the job done.

Treasurer’s Report: Total income for the month of February was $4,819. Expenses were $2,272. Bank balance as of February 28 was $12,654.

Confirmation: GK Keller read a letter from St . Mark Director of Religious Education Donna Smith, who thanked Knights Fourth Degree members for participating faithfully in past Confirmation services. Smith asked for Fourth Degree participation in this year’s St. Mark Confirmation services on May 19 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Women’s Bible Study Retreat: Keller read a  card from Nancy McGahey thanking the St. Mark Knights who gave 26 total hours of volunteer service as parking lot escorts during the February 17-18 retreat for the women’s group. She also mentioned that the 7 a .m. Mass on March 15 was to be said for St. Mark Knights.

Foundation for the Future: In year two of a five-year, $50,000 commitment to the Building Fund, St. Mark Knights have delivered $23,000. GK Keller noted that the Council is $3,000 ahead of its commitment, and may add to the total before the end of the 2006-2007 Fraternal Year (June 30)

Elections nearing: Tom McGahey, First Year Trustee, reported on the upcoming elections for the 2007-2008 Fraternal Year (July 1-June 30). The most pressing need is for Grand Knight candidates. GK Ed Keller has served two consecutive terms and has announced that he will not be a candidate for Grand Knight. McGahey will provide an update at the April 2 Council meeting.

Annual meeting delegates:  GK Ed Keller and Program Director Ray Marr will be the delegates for the May 18-20 North Carolina KofC Annual Convention. Ed Kenney will be the first alternate delegate, and Dick Christian the second alternate.

Membership team certified: The St. Mark Knights First Degree team has been certified by District Deputy Ed Kane as qualified on the new First Degree format. There will be a Knights membership blitz at St. Mark on April 14-15.

State Raffle: Sergio Miranda recognized Brother Bruce Milstead for his efforts selling extra State Raffle Tickets, thereby earning the Council additional revenue.

Free Throw Championship: Approximately 30 youth participated in the February 19 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.

April 23 Golf Tournament: Art Packard reported that response has been excellent from sponsors and players for the upcoming Spring Charity Golf Tournament at Highland Creek on Monday, April 23. Packard will provide additional detail at the April 2 Council meeting, including the need for volunteers.

Operation LAMB: Joe Scallan reported that $11,500 has been mailed out to nine different charities served by Operation LAMB (Least Among MY Brethren) .
