11-29 email from Bill Pugh to Council members

§         The Knights social night is still on for this Friday night 30 Nov 07 from 7:00 to +/-9:30 pm at the Huntersville Professional Building located at 11330 Vanstory Drive in the Huntersville Business Park (it is about 1.5 miles from the church).  To clarify, this event is for Knights and a friend(s) if you would like (Sorry, no girls at this time.  We can plan a couples event in the spring if there is interest).  We will have a for fun only No Limit Hold’em tournament as well as a game on the big screen and snacks in the kitchen.  I think you will be impressed with the accommodations.  If you do not like poker, there is plenty of room to try another game if you wish.  I believe Dan Cedrone is going to sponsor a Deal or No Deal game as well.  This will be a good time to socialize with your fellow Knights. Beverages will be provided.  Please bring an hors d’oeuvre or a bag of chips or a snack if you care to have something to eat.

§         The Christmas trees are scheduled to arrive at the church parking lot at 1:00 pm on Friday the 30th as well.  Dan Cedrone is asking for the assistance of 4-5 people to unload the trees and assist in the setting up of the tent at this time.  If you can assist, please call Dan at 704-578-9305 or send him an e-mail if you can help.  This should not take more than an hour or two.

§         Christmas tree pick-up is scheduled from 9:00 am until completion this Saturday 1 Dec 07.  This seems to be a popular event with everyone.  Please meet at the church parking lot if you can assist.

§         Jay Bunton is still looking for volunteers for the Homeless Shelter.  This consists of helping to feed the homeless and only takes a couple of hours.  The date is the 12th of December.  If you have not assisted others lately, this is a terrific opportunity to contribute.  Please see Jay for details. His e-mail address is jbunton@carolina.rr.com.

§         Finally – Our next business meeting is scheduled for 3 December at 7:30 pm, room 200 at the church.  The attendance over the past 3 months has been very disappointing to say the least.  At the last meeting, we had almost as many prospective members as Knights and quite frankly it was embarrassing.  I have limited the meetings to 1 hour.  That is 1 hour a month.  If Monday nights are too busy for most members, then I would have no objections to moving the meetings to another night. Please send me some feedback if this is the case.  Else, I hope you will take some time to participate in our next meeting.

As usual, we have many activities taking place.  Please take a look at your schedules to see which activity suits you best and try to participate.  I believe all that we do is for a worthy cause.

November 5 Meeting Notes

Membership: Ray Fitzgerald, Membership Director, reported that several potential Knights have submitted Form 100s as a result of the recent Membership Blitz. Five visitors (potential Knights or transfers) introduced themselves at the meeting.

Home Assist gift: The Council received a $200 gift as a result of work performed on a parishioner’s home by Dick Mahoney’s Home Assist group.

New meeting space offered: Dan Cedrone has offered meeting space in his business building in Huntersville Business Park as a potential new location for monthly Council meetings. The offer will be discussed further at the December 3 meeting.

Treasurer’s report: Income for the month of October totaled $43. Expenses were $1,019. Balance in the bank as of 10/31 was $11,773.

Lowe’s report: Tom Sawicki, race shuttle bus coordinator, reported that 14 Knights drove 132 hours total at the recent Lowe’s Motor Speedway races, bringing the Council slightly more than $1,000 in revenue. Sawicki thanked all the volunteers.

Golf tournament report: Tournament coordinator Art Packard was not present, but it was reported that the Fall Tournament at Birkdale Country Club will bring approximately $3,200 in revenue to the Council.

Homeless feeding: Jay Bunton, coordinator of the homeless shelter feedings, made a plea for additional volunteers so all the burden is not placed on the few Knights that have been volunteering time after time. The next feeding is Wednesday, December 12.

Christmas Bazaar: Mike Mullen thanked the Knights who volunteered at the annual St. Mark Christmas Bazaar. The event earned more than $7,000 for the Church building fund.

Sacred Heart Sundays: Deacon Robert Murphy asked for private contributions for a radio station at AM 1220 that is helping spread the Catholic Faith. Website address is   www.sacredheartcommunications.org. Address is PO Box 47004 Charlotte, NC 28247

Other discussions on the November 30 Knights social event and the annual Christmas Tree sale are covered in the Grand Knight’s communication at the top of the newsletter.
